Gambian president Barrow seeks investments from Qatar

Gambian President Adama Barrow on Thursday called on Qatari businessmen to invest in his country and benefit from the investment opportunities it offers in various sectors.

Barrow, who arrived in Doha on Thursday for an official visit, met with Qatar Chamber’s First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar. They discussed ways of enhancing trade between the two countries and exploring the investment opportunities for Qatari businesspersons in Gambia. Praising the Qatari economy and the nation’s preparations to host the FIFA World Cup 2022, he noted that the football extravaganza would attract large-scale investments to Qatar.

Welcoming the visit of the Gambian president to Qatar, QC’s Twar said the meeting he had with Barrow represented a new beginning of ties between the two countries’ businesspersons.

Twar noted that the trade exchange between Qatar and Gambia was not up to their potential and said its development would require increased cooperation between the business sectors of the two countries.

“Gambia has huge potential in several key economic sectors, such as agriculture, industries, services, fisheries, silica and titanium,” Twar said. “These sectors are very attractive for Qatari investors who are eager to invest in Africa in general and Gambia in particular because of that country’s investment incentives and relaxed norms.”
